Jahmelas and I met on the basketball court during Jr. High School.  It started off as a friendly competition … two youngins’ overly confident in their skill sets.  I was sure in a one on one game I would be the victor despite my height disadvantage.  It turned out he was the better ball player.  But we clicked instantly, my family is his family and his family is mine.  Needless to say this is my right hand brother and always my voice of reason.  Melas is the proud father of Sekou (pictured).

This is my brother from another mother!  Naturally, being the most fair skinned brothers in the class or the school for that matter.  Shelby and I met on the first day of orientation in pharmacy school.  We became close friends and later roommates.  To his credit he helped me gather the courage to approach Lj.  I will not steal his moment so be sure to ask him how Lj and I first started dating.  Shelby will be taking his stroll down the aisle to marry Ms. Joi Lynne.  He is the proud father of great little lady, Kennedi.

Poet, photographer, hip-hop artist, comedian, and scholar my brother does it all.  Samori and I met at the Howard University School of Pharmacy back in ’06.  As an P3, Swagg was always looking out for the younger brothers, offering advice on academics and women.  His words of encouragement would prove invaluable as I matriculated through school and began my career.   Look for Doc Swagg’s album, Reset Button, coming through the airwaves soon.

The District has a close knit community of young pharmacy professionals.  This is especially true among graduates of Howard and Hampton Universities.  Dave and I met through mutual friends but quickly began to bond over concepts like financial independence, fashion, the importance of family, and entrepreneurship.  Linda and I enjoy Dave’s company because of his positive energy.  Dave is the proud father of a little princess, Dylan.

My relationship with Muideen has grown from a mentor-mentee to brothers.  At first, I was not cool enough hang out with adjunct faculty but after graduating we became close friends then brothers.  For those of you that do not know Dr. Adigun, he is the top professor teaching at Howard University School of Pharmacy.  He has helped raise the morale and academic achievement for pharmacy residents and students alike.  Muideen is the proud father of two beautiful girls, Kyra and Kamryn and husband to Keyani.

Ahmir is my oldest nephew so that makes this young man the “Leader of the New School” or next generation of Wright men.  I am so proud that I have had the opportunity to play a role in his growing up.  Ahmir loves playing basketball and his favorite subject is math.  He definitely has a better handle than I did but his shoot needs work.  Work on that step back, nephew!  Ahmir keeps me balanced and reminds me to keep pushing forward.  Currently, Mir is a freshman in high school striving to gain admission to Georgetown University.

Kris and I first met at during a summer basketball camp, Keystone State Basketball Camp.  We made the All Star team, although he was running in the varsity age bracket and I was playing in junior varsity age bracket.  We had no idea that our paths would cross again at the University of Pittsburgh, randomly in Spanish class.  My brother on the West Coast, is currently in law school at UCLA and the father to a little princess, Mariana.

My “big cuz” has been there for me through thick and thin.  I remember growing up listening to West Coast hip hop at extremely high volumes because it sounds better that way.  I was more of an East Coast hip hop fan.  We would have competitions to see who had the loudest system, which artist(s) had the realest lyrics, and which songs were trunk rattlers .  Honestly, I cannot say that I ever won any of those competitions but that’s what older cousins are for.
